telc Deutsch B1 Sprachbausteine: exercises with answers

Sprachbausteine in telc Deutsch B1, the German exam: two parts, 20 gaps, 30 of 300 points. Here is how the language elements (Sprachbausteine) are built, with two short exercises in the exam format and their answers.

What the Sprachbausteine are

You do the language elements together with reading, in 90 minutes. Part 1 tests grammar: 10 gaps with three options each. Part 2 tests vocabulary: 10 gaps, filled from a box of 15 words — not all of them fit. Each part is worth 15 points.

The exercises are in German, instructions included, as in the exam.

  1. 1 a) dass — „Entschuldige, dass …“: the clause says what you are apologising for.
  2. 2 a) und — After the gap comes „ich bin“, the verb in second place. Only „und“ allows that: „deshalb“ needs „bin ich“, „weil“ sends the verb to the end.
  3. 3 a) den — Relative pronoun for „der Film“; „empfehlen“ takes the accusative here: den.
  4. 4 a) wenn — A condition — „if that suits you“ — so „wenn“.
  5. 5 a) auf — „sich freuen auf“ + accusative: looking forward to something still to come.

ich habe auf Ihrer Website eine 1 für einen Deutschkurs am Abend gelesen. Ich arbeite tagsüber und kann deshalb nur nach 18 Uhr 2. Könnten Sie mir bitte mitteilen, wie viel der Kurs 3 und wann er beginnt? Außerdem möchte ich wissen, ob ich vorher einen 4 machen muss.

Tips

  • Read the whole sentence first, not just the words around the gap.
  • In part 2, decide the gap's word class first: noun, verb, adjective?
  • Each word once — cross off what you have used.
  • Don't get stuck: the time is shared with reading.

In the full B1 tests the language elements run with reading in 90 minutes, as in the exam. Afterwards you see every gap with its answer.
